The Town of Nags Head has canceled this year’s Fourth of July fireworks.

The popular annual display at Nags Head Fishing Pier is being canceled “due to concerns for the health and safety of our participants, volunteers, and spectators. We will plan an outstanding event for 2021, so mark your calendars,” the town said.

There’s no word yet on other Outer Banks Fourth of July fireworks and events, including the annual display off Avalon Pier in Kill Devil Hills, the fireworks at Corolla at the Whalehead Club, Manteo’s Independence Day festivities on the waterfront or the Duck Fourth of July Parade.

The annual fireworks display at Avon Pier on Hatteras Island had already been postponed until July 7 for unrelated reasons, but there’s been no announcement if that display will still happen.

Ocracoke, too, has not announced whether the annual July 3 fireworks will be a go this year.
