Dare County announces two additional COVID-19 cases; mask requirement begins Sunday

Dare County Health and Human Services announced two new coronavirus cases on Saturday, for a total of 46 cases since testing began in March.

Since June 12, the county has seen 14 new cases. The latest are both non-residents — a woman between 18 and 24 years old and a boy under 17 years old. Both have transferred to their home counties for isolation, health officials said.

Among the 46 cases, 27 are Dare County residents and 19 are non-residents. As of Friday, there were 10 active cases among residents, with one hospitalization and the rest recovering in home isolation. Seventeen have recovered or have been asymptomatically cleared.

Among non-residents, one is isolating in Dare County, 11 are recovering in their home counties and seven have recovered or have been asymptomatic.

In response to the recent rise in coronavirus cases, Dare County officials will begin requiring face masks in indoor and outdoor settings where social distancing cannot be maintained.
