The Outer Banks Seafood Festival Board of Directors announced Monday that the 2020 Outer Banks Seafood Festival will be postponed until October 2021.

With the health and safety of attendees, volunteers and staff uppermost in mind, as well as the many unknowns regarding crowd gatherings, the decision was made to ensure that the festival will remain a happy, positive event, the board said in a statement.

“The mission of the Outer Banks Seafood Festival is to provide a fun and educational
experience, while at the same time promoting, honoring and celebrating our coastal seafood heritage and community,” said 2020 Outer Banks Seafood Festival Chair Richard Hess. “With the need for social distancing due to COVID-19, we didn’t feel we could provide the same experience that our attendees have come to expect and do so in a safe manner.”

The board is considering adding an additional day for 2021, along with perhaps a second event for the spring. The 2021 event will be held the third weekend in October.

The seafood festival is held at the Outer Banks Sound Side Event Site in Nags Head. With an average of over 9,000 attendees, it is the largest single-day event in the community. The 2021 event will be held the weekend of Oct. 16. Visit outerbankseafoodfestioval.org for information and updates.
