Coast Guard Station Oregon Inlet crews rescued five fishermen after their vessel capsized Tuesday evening east of the the inlet sea buoy.
The watch stander received a distress call from the crew of the 26-foot Grady White about 5:30 p.m, advising they were taking on water six nautical miles east of the Oregon Inlet Sea Buoy.
Crews launched the 47-foot Motor Life Boat and arrived on scene to find the vessel capsized with three people resting on the hull, and the other two hanging onto the vessel in the water, Station Oregon Inlet said in a Facebook post.
The crew recovered the five hypothermic fishermen and headed back to station, where Dare EMS was standing by at the pier.
All fishermen were wearing the proper life jackets and were located with help from an EPIRB (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon) that they had onboard, the Coast Guard said.
“Dare EMS are greatly appreciated for their assistance in this case,” the station wrote.
