The Weeping Radish, a major attraction on the Outer Banks since 1986, is up for sale, according to a listing by Winston & Whitney Hawkins, Outer Banks Real Estate.
North Carolina’s oldest microbrewery, which originally opened its doors in Manteo next to the Christmas Shop, is now located 35 miles north on a 25-acre farm at 6810 Caratoke Highway in Grandy in Currituck County.
The sale includes the building, land and the entire business, according to a listing. The asking price is $2.6 million.
Owner Uli Bennewitz declined to comment on the sale Friday morning. The realty company didn’t return an immediate request for comment but the listing is posted both with both the Outer Banks MLS and the realtors’ Facebook page.
When the brewery and restaurant opened, there were less than 100 breweries in the United States. Weeping Radish has brewed beer according to the Bavarian Reinheitsgebot Purity Law of 1516 which states only four ingredients can be used: hops, malt, yeast and water. In 2005, Weeping Radish moved from its popular spot on U.S.-64 in Manteo to Grandy, where Bennewitz operates a full-scale brewery, restaurant, butcher’s facility and farm.
“This business is located on the main artery to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Every weekend in season over 200,000 cars travel past this location to and from the Outer Banks,” the listing reads.
