A remarkable man who lived a remarkable life on the Outer Banks has passed away.

Whether dancing in a national Broadway Tour, serving in the Navy in World War II, or starting multiple businesses, Edward Greene always worked hard, and worked with vision. And when he saw needs on his beloved Outer Banks, he stepped forward.

Co-founder of the Outer Banks Community Foundation, Friends of Jockey’s Ridge, the New World Festival of the Arts, the famed Island Art Gallery and Christmas Shop, and many other businesses and non-profits, Eddie Greene passed away Monday at age 96.

A message from Eddie’s longtime secretary Gale:

‘Edward Louis Greene left us this morning. It was peaceful. To use a quote one of his friends wrote recently…
“He was a remarkable man who has lived a remarkable life”.
How very true that is. So remember him with a smile as he would have wanted that. And if I may borrow another quote from one of his dearest friends…..”It will be hard to imagine a world without him in it.” And at the moment I just can’t.’
Cards may be sent to Richard, Gale, et al…PO Box 265, Manteo, NC 27954.

We’ll have more on the remarkable Eddie Greene in the coming days.
