PHOTO: Loggerhead hatchlings take to the sea!

The National Park Service recently captured the featured image of Loggerhead sea turtle hatchlings making their way to the ocean.

Most recently, two public sea turtle nest excavations took place during Labor Day Weekend along the Outer Banks along Hatteras and Ocracoke.

Excavations provide a thrilling opportunity for the public to watch Park biologists dig up a recently hatched nest and inventory what’s inside. They also count empty eggshells, collect unhatched eggs, and occasionally find hatchlings like the one’s pictured above.
