On Friday, December 1st and Saturday, December 2nd from 3 – 7 p.m., Island Farm will host “Christmas on the North End,” an event focused on historic holiday traditions in the early days on the Outer Banks. This event is sponsored by the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau.
Throughout the event, costumed interpreters will share how Roanoke Island families celebrated the Christmas holiday in the mid-1800s. The homeplace will be decorated inside and out and lit by candlelight, while historic interpreters demonstrate traditional mid-19th century traditions of food, celebration, and holiday craft. Visitors will be able to visit with St. Nicholas, enjoy fresh cider, jumbles (a 19th century sugar cookie), bonfires, musket firing and the circa 1847 Etheridge homeplace through a series of vignettes! Additional activities will include candle making, ornament crafting, and grapevine wreath making.
The event takes place from 3 – 7 p.m. Admission for the event is $10 for those aged 4 and older; admission for children 0-3 is free. Island Farm is located at 1140 N on Highway 64, just north of Manteo on Roanoke Island.
