Theatre of Dare has awarded $7,000 to four local students as part of its Don Bridge Memorial Scholarship program. The amount is the most ever given out in one year by the local theater troupe.

“We’re so excited to award this money to these deserving students,” said Business Manager Kelsey Thompson. “We had a tremendous year at Theatre of Dare, and it’s gratifying to give back to the community and support the next generation of local performing arts talent.”

The four students awarded are:

  • Riya Braunstein, from Manteo High School, awarded $2,000 for studies in Film and Drama at the New School in New York City.
  • Erin Kelley, from J.P. Knapp Early College, awarded $2,000 to major in Theatre Studies at UNC-Wilmington, with a focus on performance.
  • Ava Nultemeier, from First Flight High School, awarded $2,000 to major in Dance at UNC Charlotte.
  • Jay Moxley, a 2023 graduate of Manteo High School, awarded $1,000 as he continues his studies in BFA Directing at the University of Rhode Island.

Each year, Theatre of Dare awards scholarships to local students from Currituck, Dare and Hyde counties who are planning to major in the performing arts. The money comes from donations during 50/50 raffles at Theatre of Dare’s main stage performances.

Those interested in applying for 2025 scholarships should check TOD’s website after the first of the year for information and an application packet.
