Registration is now open for the Boat America Certified Safety Class, a one-day boating safety course offered by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and designed to help boaters meet North Carolina’s mandatory education requirements.
The approaching class will take place on Saturday, February 14, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Southern Shores Fire Station 12. The course is taught by U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Certified Instructors and covers essential boating safety topics tailored to Outer Banks waterways.
Completion of the course allows participants to earn their North Carolina Boater Education Card, which is required for North Carolina boaters born on or after January 1, 1988 who operate a motorized watercraft of 10 horsepower or greater. The card is valid for a lifetime.
The Boat America class is structured as an all-in-one, single-day course, with required materials and the final exam included. Organizers note that the class is popular and that seating is limited, with spots typically filling quickly.
