The Friends of the Outer Banks History Center and Downtown Books, in collaboration with College of The Albemarle (COA) – Dare and the COA Social Sciences Department, welcome Dr. Jeffrey Reaser as the February presenter for the 2025–2026 Speaker Series.
The event is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 12, at COA – Dare.
Reaser is Professor of English at North Carolina State University, where he serves as Director of Undergraduate Programs and Director of Undergraduate Advising. He is also Associate Director of the Language and Life Project at NC State. In this role, he has worked extensively to document, celebrate and expand knowledge of dialects and language variation. He is the author of the nation’s first state-based dialect awareness program, Voices of North Carolina.
Reaser has published more than 20 academic articles and book chapters, as well as five books, including the popular-audience title Talkin’ Tar Heel: How Our Voices Tell the Story of North Carolina. He has delivered lectures at local, state, national, and international conferences and has received university and national awards for his teaching, research, advising and mentorship. During the Feb. 12 event, he will discuss Language and Life on Ocracoke: The Living History of the Brogue.
The event will take place in Veterans’ Hall (DARA 110) at COA – Dare. Doors open at 6 p.m., with the presentation beginning at 6:30 p.m.
