The Southern Shores Historic Flat Top Cottage Owners Network is pleased to announce the return of the Southern Shores Historic Flat Top Cottage Tour. Now in its seventh year, the event will take place this Saturday, April 25, rain or shine, from 1 to 5 p.m.
Characterized by their unique cinder block construction, flat gravel roofs, wide overhanging soffits, and juniper paneling, the mid-century modern flat top cottages were designed and inspired by Southern Shores founder and artist Frank Stick and represent a vital chapter in North Carolina’s coastal heritage.
The 2026 tour is set to include five homes that have been officially designated as Southern Shores Historic Landmarks. All proceeds from the tour benefit the Flat Top Preservation Fund of the Outer Banks Community Foundation.
To enhance the tour experience, Shore Coffee Roasters at Southern Shores Crossing will provide a complimentary cup of coffee to all ticket holders on the day of the event. While some cottages are located in close proximity to one another, driving between locations is recommended to ensure participants can visit all 13 sites within the four-hour window.
