Registration is now open for the Theatre of Dare’s StageWave Drama Camp, a summer program designed to introduce students to acting, storytelling, and live stage performance.
The camp, open to ages 11 through 17, offers a structured introduction to the performing arts while giving participants the opportunity to work closely with experienced instructor Stacey Maxwell in a supportive and creative environment.
This year’s session will culminate in the production of American History in 60, a high-energy comedy that parodies centuries of U.S. history through game show antics and sportscaster-style commentary. Students will rehearse and perform the show as part of a full theatrical production presented to the public at the conclusion of the program.
StageWave is scheduled in two instructional sessions, running August 3-7 from 12:30 to 4 p.m. and August 10-14 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The program will conclude with live community performances August 14-16, 2026.
Participants will develop fundamental theatre skills, including character work, stage presence and ensemble performance, while collaborating with peers throughout the rehearsal process. Instruction is supported in part through a partnership with Porkchop Productions, a regional company specializing in youth theatre education.
Organizers with the Theatre note the program is designed to encourage creativity, build confidence and expand access to performing arts opportunities for local students.
Enrollment is limited, and advance registration is recommended before the June 14 deadline. Tuition is $500, and registered students will attend character auditions at 11 a.m. June 20.
