Dare County’s longest-running kids art program, the 37th Annual Artrageous Kids Art Festival, will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Sat., May 9, at Dowdy Park in Nags Head.
Presented by PNC Bank, Artrageous is a free, family-friendly event that includes interactive art activities, live music and dance performances, as well as an artisan market and food vendors.
“As an annual tradition for Outer Banks families, Artrageous continues to foster artistic exploration and enrichment for children, while also supporting local small businesses, educators and artists,” said Jim Hansen, PNC regional president for Eastern Carolinas and Southeast territory executive. “Our local PNC team looks forward to joining the community yet again for this celebration of creativity and local talent.”
Artrageous’ theme this year is Cirque Des Arts, which is inspired by the event’s featured performers from Charlotte, N.C.
“Caroline Calouche & Co. is a Charlotte-based professional dance and circus arts company,” said Caroline Calouche & Co. Artistic & Executive Director Caroline Calouche. “Our school is the Charlotte Cirque & Dance Center, and our mission is to build confidence, emotional intelligence, and community connection through dynamic dance and circus arts experiences. At Artrageous, attendees can expect to see performers on aerial silks, trapeze and lyra/aerial hoop, along with some interactive moments throughout the festival.”
Students from Mustang Music Outreach Program, Atlantic Dance, and Ascencion Music Academy will also be performing throughout the day.
Roving artists, including actors from The Lost Colony (also presented by PNC Bank) and hula hoop performer Summer Spins, will also appear at Artrageous.
Building paper kites, mask making, creating puppets, making buttons, metal stamping, throwing clay on a wheel, and constructing tin can stilts are just a few of the free art activities that children can participate in at this year’s Artrageous.
Over 20 local artisans will be selling their work at Artrageous, including at the Young Artist Village, which provides a venue for students to sell jewelry, paintings, fiber art and more.
Fork ‘et Me Not, Hot Dons, Island Snowball, The Muse Buzz and The Lopez Lemonade Stand will be selling snacks, cool drinks, and sweet treats onsite all day.
Additional parking for Artrageous will be available at Nags Head Elementary School, the Outer Banks YMCA, Downing & Long Dentistry and the Bonnett Street Beach Access.
