There’s no better way to celebrate National Pizza Party Day than with a classic homemade pepperoni pizza: The Outer Banks Life Recipe of the Week.
Falling on a Friday this year, May 15 practically calls for a girls night, family dinner, or casual get-together centered around one of America’s favorite comfort foods.
Searching for a vegetarian option or pepperoni just not your thing? Feel free to substitute your go-to pizza toppings in their place!
Ingredients
For the dough (or use store-bought dough):
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet instant yeast
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/4 cups warm water
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
For the pizza:
- 1 cup pizza sauce
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- Pepperoni slices
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Optional: grated parmesan, red pepper flakes or fresh basil
Directions
- In a large bowl, combine flour, yeast, sugar and salt. Add warm water and olive oil, mixing until a dough forms. Knead for about 5 minutes until smooth. Cover and let rise for 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 475°F. If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven while preheating.
- Roll or stretch dough into a 12 to 14-inch circle on a floured surface. Transfer to a greased baking sheet or pizza peel.
- Spread pizza sauce evenly across the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Top with mozzarella cheese and pepperoni slices. Sprinkle with Italian seasoning.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
- Brush crust lightly with olive oil, slice and serve hot.
