Albemarle Area United Way is excited to announce its newest Board of Directors. Recently elected, they will be making a difference by joining the ranks of other community leaders with the goal of helping people reach their full potential in the Albemarle Area. AAUW mobilizes communities to action so all can thrive.
Officially starting their terms on July 1, 2026 are Paul O’Neal and William A. (Chip) Lewin II (ret. Capt USCG). These gentlemen will bring a diverse set of skills to Albemarle Area United Way. Please join us in congratulating & thanking them!
Paul brings a wealth of experience in leadership, strategic planning, and community engagement to the organization. Paul works in the Grandy office as a commercial lines Risk Advisor. He has almost 40 years of insurance experience and has been with Towne since 2010. He serves as a trusted advisor in the area, and what he enjoys most is how every day allows him the opportunity to meet people from different backgrounds and help them protect their assets. Paul serves his community as the Chair of the Currituck County Commissioners, a board member for the South Hampton Roads YMCA, and Currituck County Chamber of Commerce, and with the Independent Insurance Agents of Virginia & North Carolina.
A distinguished senior executive leader, Chip brings a wealth of experience in leadership, strategic planning, and community engagement to the organization. Currently serving as a Program Manager at the Aviation Logistics Center, Chip also operates his local consulting business, L&A Strategic Advisors, demonstrating his ongoing commitment to the region’s professional and economic landscape. Prior to his current roles, he served in executive leadership positions at Elizabeth City State University following a 28-year career as a U.S. Coast Guard aviator and engineer, which included serving as Commanding Officer of Air Station Elizabeth City and Air Station Sitka.
Chip is deeply committed to giving back to the community through extensive volunteerism and board service. In addition to his new role with the Albemarle Area United Way, he has generously offered his time and leadership to numerous local organizations. His extensive board work includes serving with the Elizabeth City Morning Rotary, the Museum of the Albemarle, Green Save Green, the Albemarle YMCA and numerous other organizations in Elizabeth City and other communities throughout his career.
His proven history of executive leadership and tireless dedication to service will be an invaluable asset to the Albemarle Area United Way and its ongoing mission to improve lives and strengthen our community.
Additionally, at our annual meeting Officers were re-elected. All positions were filled by incumbents. Board Chair – Bryan Spence, Vice Chair – Annalisa Morgan, Treasurer – Lauren Spruill, Secretary – Holly White, Human Resources – Melissa Verkuillen.
We further wish to thank our exiting board members who have served to make our region the best place to live, work and play. Special thanks to Tammy Sawyer and Damian Dondero who will complete their terms on June 30th.
