Philly Pretzel Factory brings hand-twisted Philly classics to Kill Devil Hills

The Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of Philly Pretzel Factory, a family-run franchise located in the Dare Center at 1728 N. Croatan Highway in Kill Devil Hills.

Chamber Board Chair Melissa Harrison welcomed Chamber members, board representatives, SPARC Committee members, and community supporters who gathered to mark the occasion alongside Kurt, Lisa, and Sean Unterkoefler, who cut the ribbon together as a family.

Philly Pretzel Factory got its start in Philadelphia in 1998, when two college friends began baking fresh, hand-twisted soft pretzels and serving them hot out of the oven. The concept has since grown to more than 170 locations across the country, and the Unterkoefler family is now bringing it to the Outer Banks. The Kill Devil Hills shop bakes fresh pretzels daily and offers party trays, pretzel dogs, ice cream, and other menu favorites seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Following the ribbon cutting, the celebration continued until 2 p.m. with 96.7 The Coast and 102.5 The Shark on hand for music, games, and prizes.
