Supporting pets and families across the Outer Banks: What’s new at Eastern NC SPCA

Submitted

After successfully launching their PAWmergency Safety Kit donations to Dare County First Responders, Eastern NC SPCA wants to ensure you know about the many other services and resources they provide to the community.

From their “Your Choice” Spay/Neuter Initiative to educational workshops, emergency pet preparedness, and their annual Spayghetti and NOballs fundraiser, they are out in the community making sure pet owners know everything Eastern NC SPCA offers to help families enjoy long, meaningful relationships with their pets.

As a resource and support organization dedicated to keeping animals in their homes, Eastern NC SPCA launched the “Your Choice” Spay/Neuter Initiative to cover costs by paying the pet owner’s chosen veterinarian directly. Because there are no restrictions on which veterinarian you can use, this program removes traditional barriers and allows families to take their pets straight to their primary vet.

As a Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Eastern NC SPCA recognizes that cruelty often begins at birth when far too many animals are born into environments without enough resources to provide basic care—frequently leading to healthy euthanasia, abuse, and neglect. Driven by a commitment to prevention rather than intervention, they emphasize that spaying and neutering is the true solution to cat and dog overpopulation.

To support local pet owners, Eastern NC SPCA has scheduled five pet care education workshops between October 2026 and March 2027. Topics will include emergency preparedness, adoption and fostering, pet behavior, grief support, and strategies to reduce pet care costs.

Several upcoming events are already on the calendar:

  • October 3, 2026 (11 A.M. – 1:00 P.M.): Blessing of the Animals and Luminary Memorial Walk at Dowdy Park, officiated by Father Nathan Finin

  • October 7, 2026: Emergency Preparedness for Pets at the Kitty Hawk Fire Station (in honor of Fire Safety Week)

  • February 23, 2027: Annual Spayghetti and NOballs fundraiser at The Jolly Roger

  • March 2027 (Date TBD): Hospice care with Happy Earth & Grief workshop with Dr. Stacy Scott

  • May 3, 2027: MUTT Gala at The Jolly Roger
