99.1 The Sound’s ‘Rock for Repairs’ campaign continues — now featuring a 0 matching gift challenge

99.1 The Sound – WVOD, the Outer Banks’ beloved Adult Album Alternative radio station, is reminding the community that our Rock for Repairs fundraising campaign is still actively underway and local listeners have an exciting new opportunity to double their impact!

The community-powered Rock for Repairs initiative was launched to fully restore the station’s 50,000‑watt signal and secure its future as a vital local media voice. After returning to the air under new ownership, 99.1 The Sound has been broadcasting once again to loyal listeners across the region. With decades of local service and deep community ties, the station has long been a trusted soundtrack for residents, visitors, and music lovers alike.

The campaign invites supporters to join in backing critical technical upgrades, equipment repairs, relocation into a permanent home, and the revival of favorite DJs and specialty programming. Contributions of any amount directly fuel the station’s return to robust, full-capacity operations, and help preserve independent local radio for years to come.

To help accelerate our ongoing efforts, 99.1 The Sound has partnered with local Outer Banks broker Lauren Nelson of Outer Banks with Lauren (through Keller Williams Outer Banks) for a special $500 matching gift challenge. Under this challenge, Lauren will match community contributions dollar-for-dollar up to $500!

Here are the 3 simple steps to double your impact:

  1. Visit 991thesound.com and click on the Rock for Repairs tab to learn more.

  2. Send your contribution via Venmo to @Lisa-Davis-123.

  3. Include a note saying “Lauren sent me” with your gift so it gets matched!

Participation in the Rock for Repairs initiative also provides unique engagement opportunities: individual donors become members of the Sound Listener Advisory Board (Sound LAB), contributing feedback and ideas directly to the station’s team, while business and organizational contributions may qualify as tax‑deductible.

Station leadership and team members want to extend a huge, heartfelt thank you to every single person, business, and organization that has contributed so far. Simply put, we could not have made it this far toward restoring our original wattage and broadcast reach without your generosity and dedication.

Every single day, our team works together behind the scenes to make steady improvements to our equipment, programming, and station operations. Seeing the community step up to power this journey alongside us serves as a constant reminder of why local radio matters so much. We are immensely grateful for your belief in our station and our shared legacy.

Local supporters are encouraged to visit the Rock for Repairs tab on The Sound’s website to contribute, double their gift, and learn more. Active involvement ensures the station continues serving as a vibrant source of music, entertainment, and community connection across the Outer Banks.
