A Connecticut man and his granddaughter were hospitalized Wednesday after the rental personal watercraft they were riding was struck by another PWC in the Currituck Sound off Corolla.
The incident happened around 2 p.m. in the vicinity of Whalehead Bay, according to N.C. Wildlife Commission Law Enforcement Sgt. John Beardsley.
A personal watercraft operated by a 41-year-old man from Clifton, New Jersey, struck the left rear corner of the PWC operated by the Fairfield, Connecticut man. Both PWCs had a female passenger seated to the rear of each operator.
Beardsley said a safety supervisor with the rental company saw the collision and quickly assisted all four people to shore.
The Connecticut man and girl were transported to The Outer Banks Hospital in Nags Head by Currituck EMS for treatment. He was later taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
The other man and woman were not hurt.
The incident is still under investigation by N.C. Wildlife Commission Law Enforcement.
