Things can only be looking up from here as sunsets get later starting tomorrow.
Sunset along the Outer Banks has been at 4:48 p.m. for the last several evenings. But while the sun will subsequently start going down later on Tuesday, that doesn’t mean the days are getting longer just yet.
The days with the least amount of daylight on the Outer Banks will be December 21-23, when there is just 9 hours, 44 minutes between sunrise and sunset. The winter solstice takes place at 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 21.
The latest sunrise of the year doesn’t happen until the first week of January, when the upper limb of the sun first appears over the horizon at 7:13 a.m. from January 3-8.
