Currituck places well at District and State Horse Bowl - OBX Today

Currituck County was represented well by the Currituck 4-H Horse Bowl team which recently traveled to Raleigh, NC to compete in the State 4-H Horse Bowl competition at NC State University on March 9, 2024. The 4-H Horse Bowl Contest is designed to offer an opportunity for youth interested in horses to display their knowledge gained in a competitive and friendly atmosphere. Additionally, it is designed to encourage youth and leaders to study and obtain a more thorough and complete knowledge of horses and related subject matter. 

The Currituck County Horse Bowl team, consisting of Cayden Lowe, Poppy Wright, Sophie Haislop, Amanda Jennings and Karleigh Meads, placed second at the District Horse Bowl (Mixed Team) competition that took place on February 10, 2024 in Martin County. Individual high point awards were received by Karleigh Meads, placing fifth, Poppy Wright, placing ninth, and Cayden Lowe, placing tenth. Their outstanding finish in this competition qualified the team to advance to the State Competition held March 9, 2024 on the campus of NCSU in Raleigh NC . 

The competition consisted of 10 teams in a five-round, double-elimination tournament, and Currituck finished 3rd.  Additionally Currituck County had two team members in the top ten for individual high points; Cayden Lowe was third place and Karleigh Meads placed eighth. Cayden Lowe has also been invited to try out for the NC 4-H Horse Bowl team.  Currituck County was coached by 4-H volunteer Heather Campbell – assisted by Hannah Meads and Jaime Haislop.
